IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

In light of the Government's proposed relaxation of the mask-wearing and social distancing rules, at De Beauvoir Surgery, we would like to ask our patients to continue maintaining social distance and wearing a face covering while in the waiting room and during face-to-face appointments.

Your medical records are about to be given away. As GPs, we’re fighting back

GP practices in England have been instructed to hand over their patients’ entire medical histories with just six weeks’ notice. There has been no public awareness campaign, so you’d be forgiven for not knowing that your consent is assumed, or that you have only until 23 June to opt out from having your GP data extracted. If you would like to know more please click the title.

NHS COVID PASS

How to access your COVID-19 vaccination status

Through the NHS App

You can access your COVID-19 vaccination status through the free NHS App. You can access the app through mobile devices such as a smartphone or tablet. Proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status will be shown within the NHS App. We recommend that you register with the app before booking international travel. For access via the NHS App you do not need to contact your GP. If you have had a vaccine outside of the UK we are currently unable to trader this data on to the NHS app. However we are able to upload the vaccine on to your medical records and provide you with patient online access which will hold both of you vaccines on your mobile or device.

This is not the same as the NHS COVID-19 app.

The NHS App will continue to be developed with further updates in the future. This will include the ability to show your COVID-19 test results.

Through the NHS website

You can view your COVID-19 vaccination status online and download or print it as a PDF document.

You will need to register for an NHS login if you do not have one already, to access the service. NHS login registrations may take longer than usual when there are high numbers of requests.

Access your COVID-19 vaccination status via the NHS website

By calling 119

If you do not have access to a smartphone, computer or tablet and know that the country you are travelling to requires COVID-19 vaccination status, you can call 119 and ask for a letter to be posted to you.

Request a letter only if you:

  • have been fully vaccinated by the NHS in England (you should wait 5 working days after your second dose)
  • are planning to travel in the next 4 weeks to a country that requires evidence of COVID vaccination
  • cannot access the digital service via the NHS App

We expect the letter to take up to 7 working days to reach you.

The letter will be sent to the address registered with your GP. The 119 call handler you speak to will not be able to see your address to check this with you. If you have recently moved house, make sure you’ve given your new address to your GP practice before calling 119.

Ramadan and the Covid-19 vaccine

Ramadan is due to start on the evening of Monday 12 April 2021 and we urge our Muslim patients not to delay having their Covid-19 vaccine – first or second dose – during the holy month.

The British Islamic Medical Association has reviewed the analysis of Islamic scholars and confirmed that having the vaccine does not invalidate the fast. The vaccine does not contain pork or other animal, foetal or alcohol products - this reflects the advice of the majority of Islamic scholars that it is permissible. If you are still unsure whether you should have a vaccine during Ramadan, please speak to your local Imam for guidance.

If you are taking prescribed medicines, you should continue taking them during Ramadan, but check with your GP if the doses need to be adjusted or the times that you take them need to be changed.

If you have diabetes and want to fast, please speak to your GP or diabetes nurse about the safest way to do this. Remember that there is an exemption for people with diabetes, especially if you’re on insulin or have any medical complications.

Covid-19 Vaccination Programme

We are all following the vaccination plan as laid out by Public Health - the details are shown below

The Covid - 19 Vaccination Programme in City and Hackney is being centrally co-ordinated by the City and Hackney Confederation.

At present there are two centres opening this month which will ease appointment demand for vaccines.

Appointments are released when both clinicians and vaccine are available

Each Practice is responsible for booking their own patients into the available slots and will be contacting patients when it is their turn on the priority lists. We are currently working through all patients in priority groups one and two.

Please be assured we will contact you when appointments are available and you are next on the list of priority patients.

Please try not to call reception with Covid-Vaccination queries as the phone lines are currently extremely busy and this could prevent other patients from getting through.

We know how frustrating the wait can be but please understand we are doing the very best we can for all our patients at this difficult time, and we thank you for your patience

DUTY DOCTOR SERVICE – FOR WHEN YOU HAVE AN URGENT MEDICAL PROBLEM THAT CANNOT WAIT

This service offers you quick access to your GP practice, where they know you and have your full medical record. We recommend this service instead of going to A&E at the hospital

  1. Phone the surgery and explain to reception that you have an urgent problem
  2. Reception can then put you on the Duty Doctor list for:
  • Advice over the phone
  • An appointment at the surgery
  • A home visit if you are too sick to come to the surgery
  • A referral to another service
